After I cracked and ruined my original filter, I purchased a new one that insisted the BioMax inserts were essential to its functionality. Having had my original filter for about 6 years, I decided to follow the instructions about adding BioMax, thinking this was a product upgrade. I was deeply dissapointed. Not only did it create cloudy water, despite my effort to add “clear water” drops to resolve this, but the lifespan of my fish decreased dramatically. I was losing fish every week. Once I removed the BioMax insert, the water cleared instantly and my fish started to thrive.

This product does NOT create cloudy water if used properly with the Hagen AquaClear filter. Its part of the filters 3 stage filtration system, why would anybody think it would CREATE cloudy water? The BioMax reduces ammonia and nitrate levels which are common causes of cloudy water. Saying it creates cloudy water is just absurd.

Item came in perfect condition in box no parts missing and I installed intank almost same day and it works well.

I bought this pump for a 72g bow front aquarium with a sump filter. I also have an inline water cooler hooked to the pump before the water returns to the aquarium. This pump works great and is the quietest pump I have had in the aquarium. It has been running for a couple months now with out any problems and no increase in noise level. I am very satisfied with the pump and when it breaks I will get another.

I have two of these pumps. One powers my wet/dry filter system. I also have a 3000 which powers my in-sump protein skimmer. They are all very efficient, compact and QUIET pump. Reliable too! Best bang for your money considering many other name brands are more expensive. DrsFosterSmith.com also lists Quiet One pumps as “Doctors’ Best”. I would not consider any other pumps for my money.

I bought this to replace a very LOUD rio, this one is wonderful so far- no vibration, quieter than the water trickling into the overflow box. I can’t speak for lasting power, because I’ve only had it for a few hours.

I look at this book,and I have a lot of fish books, as a handyman’s manual. It is good for referencing water conditions and how to correct the most important element of the hobby – water. It goes to great length describing and showing how to correct PH, nitrites, and so forth for optimal water conditions, which is different for each fish. The filtration aspect I found helpful but only to the point of being a beginner. If you want to know what media to use or filter type you might need for your aquarium this is a good source. I would recommend this book.

This book helps alot for beginners. Filtration is a complex subject for a beginner but with this book you can manage lots of diffucult things. Articles and photos are fine. I recomend this book.

Before you can become an expert at anything you need to know the basics. What this book does well is explain aquarium filtration and the equipment involved to those who may have little or no knowledge on this matter. Many aquarist books explain filtration very briefly, often leaving the reader with questions and incomplete information about the process. This book will tell you how and why filtration occurs, and explain various filter products and how they work. Includes filtration suggestions for different tank set-ups, but could have included more. Marine tanks are covered, but I would say that freshwater tanks are more the focus of this book.

I wish now that I did not buy this book, the information is just too general. Basic design and filter sizing are topics that I expected to find in this book.
